The APRA/AMCOS sponsored Semaphore Songs composers will be performing on Monday 1 October 2018 at Hart’s Mill Flour Shed, Mundy Street, Port Adelaide. Performances will be throughout the day, winding up with the Emily Davis Band presenting songs from her new album – You, Me and the Velvet Sea. The composers will also participate in a songwriter speaks panel discussion convened by Alana Jagt.

Nancy Bates
Nancy Bates
Nancy Bates is the artist to watch in 2018, launching her highly anticipated album, ‘For Your Love’. Patiently sculptured, Bates’ original compositions invite us into her heart, and like a mirror, those deep dived words, and soulful voice, reveal the listener to themselves. Three years on the road with Archie Roach as backing vocalist, guitarist and support act, has influenced her song writing, fostering a deep maturity in her voice, and storytelling. Roach considers Nancy Bates to be one of the most gifted emerging songwriters in Australia today.

Tara Carragher
Tara Carragher
As a seasoned and dynamic performer with passion for all things alt-country, Carragher is the natural choice to navigate the ground breaking discography of the prolific Americana troubadour, Lucinda Williams. Tara Carragher and her band returns to this year’s Semaphore Music Festival for ‘Righteously – The Music of Lucinda Williams’ at Semaphore Port Adelaide RSL.
In the spirit of reconciliation, Tara will collaborate with singer/songwriter Nancy Bates on the Semaphore Songs project and participate in the panel discussion.

Mary Webb
Mary Webb
Captivating vocals, catchy, offbeat guitar picking and a swig of poetry, you can see why Mary Webb has been described as “a shining light” in the Adelaide Folk scene. Drawing on a vast array of musical influences, Mary’s songs are thoughtful yet frank, exploring human fragility, self-discovery and connection.

Nick Kipridis
Nick Kipridis
With great reviews from the US for their debut and 2nd releases, Velvet Moth is a band with no musical boundaries. Consisting of members from premier Adelaide bands such as surf/instro masters GT Stringer and multi award winning R&B band The Streamliners, the resultant is a fusion of styles giving way to face-melting psychedelic grooves, satirical lyrics and space-warp guitar jams that verge on improvisational lunacy and hook-line 60s dance classics all wrapped up in a velvet musical cocoon. Amazing video/lighting stage sets and unpredictable fiery live performances have become a hallmark of their live shows.
